Slipped Disc

Slipped Disc

A disc can’t slip. But it can wedge, bulge, protrude and herniate. Chiropractic care can help. The most serious disc problem is a prolapsed disc in which the soft center ruptures and leaks.

The disc is a special cartilage between the bones of your spinal column. It attaches to the vertebra above and below it. This creates the separation between spinal bones so pairs of nerves can exit the spine.

Each spinal disc has a jelly-like “ball bearing” core that is contained by bands of fibrous tissue. Healthy discs give you flexibility for normal turning and bending. Improper lifting, slips, falls and car accidents can cause the core to shift:

Herniation - disc wedging narrows nerve openings. Obvious symptoms may not be present.

Protrusion - like a blister, the disc bulges where it is the weakest, causing nerve pressure.

Prolapse - with the cushioning and separating compromised by rupture, movement is painful.

Chiropractic First

Chiropractic has been a natural solution helping millions with a variety of disc problems.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How does Chiropractic help disc problems?
The purpose of Chiropractic care is to locate and correct areas of the spine interfering with the proper nervous system control of your body. Because the intervertebral discs are so close to the spinal cord and nerve roots, disc involvement is quite common in Chiropractic cases.

Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper motion and position of malfunctioning spinal bones, reducing nervous system involvement. If caught before permanent damage, disc tissue often returns to a more normal size and shape by restoring proper motion and position of affected spinal joints.

Aren’t disc problems simply the normal aging process?
No. However, many disc problems are the result of years of neglect. Many spinal problems are nonsymptomatic until the advanced stages of degeneration. There are many cases of elderly patients who have maintained their spine throughout their lives who enjoy excellent spinal health and function.

I didn’t do anything so how can a disc be involved?
This is a common refrain. Because our bodies are unusually adaptive, we can often accommodate a variety of stresses for years. Finally, like the “straw that broke the camel’s back,” we turn or bend funny and suddenly our spine succumbs to the accumulation of stress.

Low back pain treatments

Pain of any kind is a sign something’s wrong. Some people silence the pain with drugs. But that would be like removing the battery to quiet a smoke detector!

Drugs can silence the painful alarm, but overlook the cause.

Two Common Causes

The nerve-rich facet joints on the back side of each spinal bone are a common cause of back pain. The pain can be a sign these interlocking “fingers” aren’t moving right.

The discs between spinal bones can be involved. Trauma can cause the soft, pulpy material in the middle to bulge, putting pressure on nearby nerves.
Your Choices

We’ve helped many people with safe and natural chiropractic care. Other choices include:

Ignore it (Spinal problems worsen.)
Bed rest (Prolongs the problem.)
Therapy (Stresses malfunctioning joints.)
Medicine (Covers up the problem.)
Surgery (Drastic. Risky. Ineffective.)

Specific chiropractic adjustments can help the spine “right itself.” By restoring the way your spine works, nerve involvement is reduced, pain eases and the body can heal.

Chiropractic Services For Your Health

There are a variety of ways that people today can protect and even promote the health of their bodies. There are more than enough diets to choose from no matter what kinds of foods you love or hate. People can join an expensive diet club to receive accountability for their weight loss goals or people can join expensive gyms filled with amazing equipment that many people do not even know how to operate. Diet and exercise are both important elements of any healthy lifestyle, don’t get me wrong. However, there are also a variety of other elements and services that can be helpful in achieving and maintaining a truly healthy life. Benefiting from chiropractic services is one of these amazing yet underused elements that promote health.

I’ll admit that for most of my life I thought that chiropractic services were only for those people with terrible posture or for people who had just gotten into a bad car accident and needed almost a physical therapy of sorts. So it had never entered my mind to see get chiropractic services done for myself until a friend of mine began boasting about her chiropractic visits and the difference they were making in her life.

Still a bit skeptical, I asked my friend exactly what the chiropractic services did for her. I wasn’t prepared to hear the long list of benefits that she listed off. She shared with me that she had been utilizing chiropractic services for the past several years and that in that time she had been sick with common colds and flus only once. It seemed that the chiropractic services she was receiving every other week made a huge difference in her immune system being able to fight against common viruses and diseases. She also claimed that chiropractics had done wonders for her alignment and posture and that her lower back was no longer in constant, throbbing pain like it used to be. My friend said chiropractic services had simply “straightened everything out for me.”

After hearing about these benefits and more, I decided to give chiropractic services a try for myself. I called to schedule an appointment with my friend’s chiropractor and then I waited for the blessed day to arrive. When it did, I was filled with a little bit of fear and trepidation about what he would say to me and about if his chiropractic services would cause me pain. (I had, for some reason, never thought to ask my friend if the chiropractic services she ranted about hurt at all.)

After one hour of receiving chiropractic services and advice about my health, I left the office a believer. I couldn’t believe what I had learned and how good I felt after just one visit. And now, years later, I am still just as strongly convinced that chiropractic services should be added to everyone’s health and fitness regimen.

Life Care Chiropractor

With the economy continuing to worsen, almost by the day, many chiropractors are becoming more and more concerned about the future of their practice, income, and livelihood.

That is why it is very important to realize the value of a website. With a proper website a lot of the daily grind can be placed on auto-pilot. You can stream line you everyday operations and increase your clients. You can generate a lot more leads using the power of the internet at less than half the cost of conventional advertising.

Questions like, “Are people going to be able to afford chiropractic care” and “What the heck’s going to happen to my practice in the future” are only some of the thoughts and concerns many chiropractors are dealing with. And rightly so. The economy IS terrible and it IS more difficult than ever to be a successful chiropractic doctor. However…

It’s in times like these that fortunes are made!
It’s times like these that separate the “real-deal” from the “ordinary and average”.

I believe that wholeheartedly because history has proved it time and again.

The question is… do you?

Do you believe that you can still thrive in a tough economy?

If not, the battle is already over. You’ve already thrown in the towel.

If you do believe it, than hopefully you understand that it’s going to require change, adaptation, and flexibility.

Change, because times are different today than they were even just 24 months ago. You can’t expect to practice and promote the same way you were then, and yet get the same (if not better) results. It’s just not going to happen.

Adaptation, because you’re going to need to adapt your practice and marketing to what works. In other words, you can not continue hoping things are going to improve for you (and not get radically worse). You need to adapt what you are doing to the economic environment as if you were a chiropractic business chameleon.

Lastly, flexibility, because you need to be willing to do what works. As you may have heard me say before… and it’s one of the profound pieces of advice I can give you… you must be mature enough to do the things that work in your practice, NOT the things you’re most comfortable with. When you’re in business for yourself, as you are as a practicing chiropractor, you MUST remain flexible enough to do the things in the best interest of your practice.

In combination, the willingness to change, adapt, and be flexible with your practice and marketing, is what will help you THRIVE in these tough times while other chiropractors remain rigid and eventually go extinct.
So, how do you put these three in action in your practice?
